Welcome to Culion Island in the heart of the Calamianes Islands, North Palawan, the Last Frontier of the Philippines.
Giant, shy monitor lizards scurry and scatter for refuge, monkeys take the mickey and parrots, dreary gray sand pipers and brightly colored kingfishers squawk, chirp and tweet in disharmonious cacophony. Identically colored sparrows, swifts and crows dart from foliage to foliage and white-bellied sea eagles that mate for life, spiral lazily at dizzying heights and swoop down swiftly to scoop up a fish.
